Our Location

Services are conducted in the sanctuary located in the Roosevelt Island Cultural Center. There are two entrances to the center. The first is located behind the Hardware & Video store across the street from Church Plaza. Enter the breezeway at 540 Main Street and take the steps down. There is also access via elevator at 548 Main Street.

Via Subway or Tram

Take the "F" train to the Roosevelt Island stop or the Tram from 59th Street and Second Avenue. Proceed north from the subway (with the Queensboro Bridge behind you and Manhatten on your left). After approximately 2 blocks you will pass the Church plaza on your left. Take either of the entrances described above.

Via Car

From Manhattan

Drive over the upper level of the Queensboro Bridge (from 57th or 58th Street). Keep to the right lane as you exit the bridge (following the signs to 21st Street). At the bottom of the exit ramp, turn right on 21st Street. Continue north to 36th Avenue. Turn left onto 36th Avenue, and continue until you arrive at the bridge to Roosevelt Island. Park here or drive over the bridge.

From the Triboro Bridge

Drive over the Triboro Bridge - follow the signs to Queens. Keep to the right lane as you exit the bridge - take the first exit in Queens. Cross the side street that runs parrallel with the bridge. Continue one block to Astoria Boulevard. Turn right - continue two lights to 21st Street. Turn left onto 21st Street. Continue north to 36th Avenue. Turn left onto 36th Avenue, and continue until you arrive at the bridge to Roosevelt Island. Park here or drive over the bridge.

From Queens Boulevard

Drive west on Queens Boulevard to 39th Street. Turn right onto 39th Street. Continue 3 blocks, cross over the bridge to first light. Turn left onto Northern Boulevard. Continue about two blocks, and make a slight right to 37th Avenue. Continue on 37th Ave about 5 blocks, cross under the El tracks, continue another mile past 21st St. to T-intersection. Turn right onto Vernon Blvd, proceed one block to the first light - 36th Ave. Park here or make a left to continue over the bridge onto Roosevelt Island.

From the Grand Central Parkway

Drive west on the GCP, take 31 St. exit (last exit before the Triborough bridge). Follow Hoyt Avenue about three lights to 21st Street. Turn left onto 21st Street. Continue south to 36th Avenue. Turn right onto 36th Avenue, and continue until you arrive at the bridge to Roosevelt Island. Park here or drive over the bridge.

From the Long Island Expressway

Drive west on the LIE, take the Van Dam exit and follow the road (Borden Ave.) as it swerves left underneath the LIE. Make a right onto Vernon Blvd. (the first light after you see the entrance to the Midtown Tunnel on your right). Stay on Vernon Blvd, pass under the Queensboro Bridge, and continue two more lights to 36th Ave. Park here or make a left to continue over the bridge onto Roosevelt Island.

From the Brooklyn/Queens Expressway

Driving east on the BQE, take the McGuinness/Humbolt exit. Turn left at the light at the bottom of the ramp. Pass under the BQE, and follow McGuiness Ave north about five lights. Go over the Pulaski Bridge, and continue straight on 11th Street until you arrive at the Queensboro Bridge. Make a left (onto Queens Plaze South), proceed a half block to Vernon Blvd. Turn left unto Vernon Blvd, pass under the Queensboro Bridge, and continue two more lights to 36th Ave. Park here or make a left to continue over the bridge onto Roosevelt Island.

Parking

Free Parking - in Queens

Don't drive over the bridge to Roosevelt Island! There is street parking on the Queens side. Most convenient are the side streets immediately parallel to the bridge on the north and south. Walk over the bridge, enter the Motorgate Parking Garage and take the escalator down. Exit the doors to the left and turn left onto Main Street. Walk about 2 blocks - Take either of the entrances described above.

Garage Parking

(Warning ... The garage can be expensive!) As you cross the RI Bridge, there is the Motorgate Parking Garage on the right. Take the elevator down to Main Street and turn left onto Main Street. Walk about 2 blocks - Take either of the entrances described above.

Street Parking

Alternatively, cross the bridge, turn left and drive down to ramp to Main Street. Turn right and park on the street where indicated (You can pay $1 per hour at the streetside vending machines for up to six hours). The synagogue is located south on Main Street - pass Gristedes supermarket and the ramp to the bridge on your left. Walk about 2 blocks - Take either of the entrances described above.
