Blackwell House Deteriorating

Deterioration of Blackwell House is evident in this photo of its roof with a straight line superimposed. The building is the oldest still standing on Roosevelt Island, and one of the oldest in New York City.  Although there is litigation to evict a tenant, the Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation still has the obligation to maintain the property, according to attorney James Kaufman, an Island resident. Michael Greason of RIOC has responded that work must await conclusion of legal action.
