Mayor Rudy Giuliani is sending two Roosevelt Island names to
the Governor as nominees for the Board of 
RIOC: Patrick Stewart, President of RIRA, and
Susan Whitaker, Chair of the Roosevelt Island Council of
Organizations. That news was brought to Wednesday night's Town
Meeting by Lou Carbonetti, a resident who is a longtime friend of
the Mayor.
Presuming both become RIOC Board members, the Island will have
four resident members on the nine-member Board. The others are
Ron Vass and David Kraut. Their terms have expired, however.
As one questioner, Joyce Mincheff, pointed out at Wednesday
night's meeting, if the DHCR Commissioner or his representative
votes with Island members of the RIOC Board, a 5-4 vote can be
used to rein in RIOC President Jerome Blue, or perhaps call for
his ouster.
