PS/IS 217 is about to begin the selection process for a
permanent assistant principal, a position that Sharon Jeffrey-
Roebuck has held on an interim basis since September.
In previous years, the school had an administrative assistant
to perform the tasks normally handled by an assistant principal.
After many years, District 2 has agreed to fund an assistant
principal position. At the next PTA meeting on March 20 at 6:30
PM, 6 to 10 parents will be elected to participate on the
committee that will recommend candidates for the position. The
committee also will include two teachers elected by the school
faculty, principal Sherry Gregory, a representative from DC37,
and the district superintendent's designee, who will serve as
chair. The committee will meet over a period of several months
to review resumes, interview candidates, and recommend five
candidates to the superintendent. Hopefully, this process will
result in selection of a permanent assistant principal in time
for the beginning of the next school year in September.
All parents or guardians of students at 217 are eligible to
serve on the committee and to vote to elect the parent members of
the committee.
