RIRA Fun'Raiser Brings in $4,460 Norma Martinez and Nelly Falcon Marilyn and Larry Itskowitch

A capacity crowd of Islanders and guests reveled last weekend at RIRA's "Swingin' Soiree" event at Manhattan Park Theater Club. The event, billed as a "Fun'Raiser," made $4,460 for the Residents Association's treasury.

Some 300 tickets were sold, but additional income resulted from sale of tables, drinks, a "money tree," and 50-50 raffles held during the evening.

Vicki Feinmel, the RIRA Common Councilor who headed up preparations for the event (see her letter, page 2), told The WIRE, "This event was an unexpectedly huge success. It was great watching everyone have such a great time."

She added, "I hope this will be the beginning of many more community events to come."

While the money raised with last weekend's party will go for general purposes, RIRA faces a need to raise funds for other reasons. It is intervening in an Article 78 legal action aimed at rolling back the Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation's approval of the plan for Southtown. In addition, members of the Common Council have been anticipating other possible legal action in response to development actions by the RIOC Board.
