Blotter March 1-15

Trespass

3/9, Gristede's, 686 Main St., Arrest.  Gristede's Manager caught male resident in unauthorized area of store with five cases of beer, valued at $68.69.  Officers apprehended him, issued him a "C" summons.

Criminal Mischief

3/1, laundry, 531 Main St.  Concierge phoned PSD, said window was cracked in two places.  Unknown object had struck it from outside.  Officer searched area with negative results.  Super to make repairs.

3/2, hall, 546 Main St.  Tenant informed officer there was a hole in the wall.  He investigated and confirmed same on 6th floor.  RIHM super was informed.  Officer searched area with negative results.

3/2, 4th, 5th, 7th floor halls, 546 Main St.  Officer noticed holes in wall at scene.  Made search of area, with negative results.  Officer took pictures.  RIHM personnel notified.

3/3, breezeway, 506 Main St.  Officer noticed broken window, other officers responded, conducted search with negative results, could not determine whether or not any property had been taken.  Unable to contact administrator, officer was posted at scene.  Subsequently administrator responded, and interior/exterior search was conducted.

3/5, 559 Main St., Montauk Credit Union's branch manager in-house, stated unknown persons had tampered with ATM machine, breaking lock to lower cabinet, which was on floor.  NYPD responded, prepared report.

3/7, 560 Main St.  Officer responded to scene for report of shattered lobby door and confirmed same, searched area with negative results.

3/8, apartment door, 580 Main St.  Female phoned PSD, said apartment was on fire.  Officers responded, found door bell had been burnt.  Officers were informed that earlier tenant's children were involved in dispute with another youth.  Officers searched area with negative results.

Disorderly Conduct

3/3, east roadway, 560 Main St.  Two arrests.  Officer observed two females in physical dispute, requested assistance which arrived.  Both perps were escorted to PSD, where they were each issued a "C" summons and released.

Harassment

3/9, in front of PS 217, 645 Main St.  Arrest / Disorderly Conduct.  Officer responded to call, male / female were found at scene, escorted to PSD.  Female stated male pushed her and her head had struck a pole, raising a bump on her head.  EMS responded, examined her, EMT said it was not serious.  Male was issued two "C" summonses and released.

Assisted NYPD

3/1, 560 Main St.  NYPD detective in-house, asked assistance to enter apartment to pick up perp.  for probation warrant.  RIHM super also responded to assist NYPD.  PSD officer escorted NYPD officer to apartment and cleared area.

Dispute

3/6, apartment/hallway, 595 Main St.  Officer responded to call from youth of someone knocking at door.  Upon arrival, officer encountered two youths in a verbal dispute in hallway.  The non-resident of 595 was escorted out of bldg.  Subsequently victim went out to the store, where argument resumed.  Officer escorted non- resident of 595 to PSD and called mother.  Sgt.  spoke with her mother, and referred matter to Youth Officer.

3/7, lobby, 540 Main St.  Cross complaint.  RIHM super informed officer that a RIHM employee had been walking on Main St.  in same direction as complainant's daughter, when the employee addressed complainant's daughter.  The former asked him not to speak to his daughter.  Subsequently a physical confrontation ensued between the two men, one received a laceration in mouth, and refused EMS.

3/8, exit, 688 Main St.  Officer responded to scene and observed an irate M/G attendant yelling at another male.  Latter had refused to pay for parking.  Officer mediated, M/G employee agreed to charge parking to victim's account.

Flood

3/14, 9th floor hall/apartment, 546 Main St.  RIHM employee notified PSD of flood condition in 9th floor.  Super at scene.  Officers responded, confirmed condition, knocked on door, no response, no key to top lock at RIHM and they drilled lock.  Water was running in kitchen sink.  Tenant not at home.  There was also water in apartment next door, as well as in front of another apartment.

Found Property

3/13, Montauk, 559 Main St.  Montauk employee in- house, turned in blue shopping cart and misc.  containers, which had been left in their premises and nobody had claimed same.  Cart is in a PSD closet.  Seniors' social worker was contacted; Officer thought it might belong to a senior.

Graffiti

3/2, 531 Main St.  Officer observed graffiti on rear of bldg. 3/7, hall, 580 Main St.  Officer saw graffiti at scene. 3/9, 595 Main St.  Officer noticed graffiti at D, E ground floor exit.

Hazardous Condition

3/3, laundry, 540 Main St.  Officer noticed a large spill on the laundry room floor.  RIHM employee cleaned up the spill, which was apparently liquid soap.  There were no injuries incurred. 

Investigation

3/1, apartment, 510 Main St.  Female phoned PSD, requested officer to remove RIHM employee who was working at scene.  Officer arrived at apartment.  Woman stated employee at scene to repair toilet, an argument ensued over same, regarding work sheet.  Employee worked on toilet and said she needed new toilet.  Employee and tenant kept arguing, and resident demanded he leave apartment.

3/3, classroom/music studio, 506 Main St., Burglary Follow- Up.  Youth Center administrator responded to scene upon being advised of broken window at Center.  He confirmed there was sound / recording equipment missing valued at US$4,050.  NYPD responded, officer was able to lift fingerprint from scene.

3/3, 546 Main St.  Female approached officer, asked for assistance, was escorted to PSD by officer.  (Through translator she said lease holder had packed her belongings and taken them to foyer.) Officer responded to apartment, asked tenant to come to PSD, who informed female she could return to apartment.  Offer was refused.  Latter requested Korean taxi, which picked her up and took her to Queens.

3/11, apartment, 546 Main St.  Female resident in- house, said she thought her aunt's apartment may have been ransacked.  The former had not seen aunt's apt.  recently.  The aunt had been taken to hospital on 3/9.  Sgt.  took 2 photos at niece's request.  There was no tampering or any sign of forced entry.

3/12, Queens side, 36 Ave.  Bridge, off-Island.  Male resident in-house, said that on Sunday he was riding his bicycle across bridge when two unknown males knocked him off the bicycle and tried to push him off the bridge.  He was holding on to the railing and they hit his hands.  A passing motorist honked the horn.  The perps fled.  Victim could not give additional descriptions.  NYPD, EMS responded.  Victim refused transport for bruised hands.  NYPD prepared report.

3/14, breezeway, 540 Main St.  Underage youth in- house, stated a youth had asked him if he was a member of a gang.  He replied in the negative.  Perp then punched him in chest, took his wallet which contained his passport, tram pass and Metro card.  Victim asked to look at PSD's photograph book.  He did not see the perp's photo.  NYPD responded, prepared report.  Lost/Found Child

3/13, sidewalk, 543 Main St.  Sgt.  found 3- year-old running at scene, brought him to YO's office.  Parent in-house a few minutes later, said she was in doctor's office with younger child, had left boy in waiting area playing, when he ran out of office.  YO spoke with parent about providing proper supervision and was informed by mother that if a problem were to arise, she was a diplomat.

Missing Property

3/1, community room, 576 Main St.  Female resident in-house, said that on 2/24 she placed a name-brand wallet (valued at US$70), containing credit cards, etc.  in pocket of jacket before arriving at Comm.  Room.  She did not check the pocket again until 2/26.  She searched the apartment and did not locate wallet.  She refused NYPD.  Sgt.  searched Comm.  Room with negative results.

Property Damage

3/8, RIHM lobby, 552 Main St.  Male resident, who was denied parking permit, exited RIHM office, slammed door, causing plate glass window to crack.  RIHM adm.  employee (reporter) contacted.  Officers responded, were told perp.  was in gift shop and escorted him to PSD, where he was informed he had cracked window.  Perp.  and RIHM employee reached agreement, under which perp.  would pay RIHM US$500 for replacement window and perp.  was released.

Smoke Condition

3/3, 555 Main St.  RIHM super notified PSD of smoke condition at scene; officers responded.  FDNY was notified and also searched area.  Resident had burned wax, and had opened door to disperse smoke.  FDNY 45th Battalion and three other engines responded.

3/6, apartment, 580 Main St.  Officers responded to scene for heavy smoke condition, encountered smoke emanating from apartment.  RIHM manager, two supers responded.  All entered apartment which was unoccupied, noticed unattended pot on stove, as well as numerous electrical appliances plugged into only one outlet, and a cluttered apartment with electrical appliances.  Apartment was secured.

3/10, apartment, 560 Main St.  Officer responded to smoke alarm at scene.  Upon arrival officer saw smoke in hallway.  Resident said she had inadvertently burned food, opened door to clear smoke from apartment.  No property damage nor injuries incurred.

Unsecured Premises

3/13, 548 Main St.  While officer was patrolling, he noticed that front door of Cultural Center was unsecured, notified D.O., searched interior with negative results.  Cultural Center executive was notified, door was re-secured.

Vehicle Accident

3/7, beginning of ramp, 688 Main St.  Officers responded to report of accident at scene, where both drivers were in respective vehicles.  It seems vehicle #1 was making left at scene when vehicle #2 who was heading northbound made right, vehicle #2 struck #1 in rear, causing damage.  NYPD responded, prepared report.

3/8, 625 Main St.  Officer responded in patrol car #3 to scene of car stop.  Sgt.  had pulled over a car for violation of U-turn.  Officer pulled up in back of civilian's car.  When car stop was completed and former's car pulled out.  Officer in patrol car #3 miscalculated and inadvertently struck the car.  Neither sustained any damages nor injuries, NYPD was refused. 

Water Leak

3/4, Sr.  Ctr., 546 Main St.  Anon.  male notified PSD of a water leak at Senior Center.  Officer responded, RIHM employee responded, said leak was emanating from overflowed sink upstairs.  Officer confirmed same, RIHM repaired leak.

3/7, apartment, 580 Main St.  RIHM supers and supervisors requested an escort to apartment for leak, where they drilled lock and entered premises.  (Tenant arrived when they were in apartment.) RIHM personnel repaired leak.

3/13, apartment, 546 Main St.  RIHM super in-house, requested escort to apartment for report of water leak.  Former checked apartment, water was not emanating from apartment.  Apartment was secured.  Resident was not in premises.  Subsequently it was discovered water leak was coming from roof.
