You don't know us.
You think we are weak because we live in a peaceful and
contented land.
You think we are weak because we are from many nations with many
tongues.
You think we are weak because we allow free exercise of all
religions.
You think we are weak because women participate fully in our
society.
You think we are weak because our churches tell us to love one
another.
You don't know us.
You think we are weak because we freely criticize our leaders
and institutions.
You think we are weak because our courts protect the rights of
the accused.
You think we are weak because we are slow to anger but quick to
forgive.
You think we are weak because we give generously to raise up a
defeated enemy.
You think we are weak because our leaders are not filled with
hate.
You don't know us.
You don't understand that to attack us is to unite us.
You don't understand the strength we derive from pride in our
nation and its history.
You don't understand the strength of many peoples and races
living and working together.
You don't understand that we are a loyal and steadfast friend but
an implacable foe.
But soon you will understand.
You will witness our strength.
You will behold our righteous wrath.
And in that last moment of your life,
When we have loosed the fateful lightning from our terrible,
swift sword -
Then you will know us.
