Fall of the Towers
by L. Nandini Moorthy, MD

Twin cigarette stubs smoking the sky,
Clouds!
Clouds, not ringlets, turning to gray
Dwarfed meanly this morning.
Stench reeking from the windows,
Blood and rubble,
Rubble and blood,
Debris and pieces.
Mutilation in grand scale...
Bodies and souls,
Manhattan, America.
Air filled with shrieking ambulances,
And patrolling jets.
Interrupting the unusual deathly silence of the FDR,
Fleeing home o'er the Queensboro Bridge,
Never so many walked on that highway!
War!
Spells the smoke behind the Empire State,
And behind the shining Chrysler
Rise the fuming clouds.
The Twin Towers of Oz are gone.
