September 11th
by Chloe C. Grimes

America is reeling
From the September 11th terrorizing
Of New York City and Washington -
Much, too much, death and destruction.
Despicable acts to bring down our country,
Tremendous sorrow to you, me and all humanity.
Some say, was this payback time?
Quite possibly, have we committed crimes?
Think back to our many atrocities
And, if the cap fits, pull the string please!

My heart overflows with sadness for what was done,
But wake up, everyone, there is a battle to be won.
Militarily, intellectually, for a fight we are equipped.
Spiritually, mentally, seems we are whipped.
Ever ready to use our might.
But this is not a free-for-all fight.
Force with force is not the response.
Leaders, use your wisdom, even just this once.
And that requires looking within
For that's where lies the strength to win.
Taking action is very, very necessary
But the wrong one could cause us a huge catastrophe.
What's the right action, maybe dialogue?
Not us, you say, not with those rogues!
Hundreds of them are roaming the world
To perpetuate their hate and their weaponry hurl.
A turning point for every American this must be
As we grit our teeth and swallow this adversity
For now, that is, while we make the best plan
To eradicate those hateful terrorists from the land.
Whose only goal really is to destroy our freedom
Of which they are envious and would desperately welcome.
Maybe, one day, some day, we'll touch their hearts -
When, who knows, if even by fits and starts.
The point is, whether we like it or not,
Terrorists are twisted human beings turned inside out.
