Briefly...

• No F-train service to Manhattan this weekend, 12:01 a.m. Saturday through 5:00 a.m. Monday.

• RIOC is trying new routing for the many school buses that have been tying up Main Street morning and afternoon, as they discharge and board students of The Child School/Legacy High School. They will now use the west promenade in the morning (7:15-8:30), and the east promenade in the afternoon (1:00-3:30). "All pedestrians should exercise caution on the seawalls during these hours," RIOC says in an advisory.

• PS/IS 217 is looking for Career-Day speakers – presenters who will tell fifth through eight-grade students about their careers: educational requirements, pay, a typical work day. It’ll end with a luncheon. Want to tell kids about your career on Friday, June 9? Call Guidance Counselor Susan Cohen at 212-980-0294, ext. 3230.

• Faculty housing at NYU is providing a co-ownership financing package for staffers buying at Riverwalk Landing, now starting construction in Southtown. Literature gives estimated prices starting at $490,000 for one-bedroom units (700-800 square feet), $705,000 2br (1000-1100 sf), and $945,000 3br (1400-1500 sf), with NYU carrying 30% of the purchase price. The NYU literature projects completion in July, 2007.

• There’s a Starbucks coming to Roosevelt Island, to be located in the storefront at the southwest corner of Riverwalk Place, just above the subway, with outdoor seating, according to David Kramer of the Hudson Companies – opening in three to four months.

• The New York Foundation for Senior Citizens wants to recruit Roosevelt Islanders as volunteer ombudsmen to visit seniors residing at Coler-Goldwater. To volunteer or get more information, call 212-962-2720 or e-mail Lpetta@nyfscltcop.org.

• A three-year project to renovate the Roosevelt Island Bridge will keep traffic open as the span is updated. A meeting Wednesday, April 19, at 8:00 p.m. in Good Shepherd Community Center will include a detailed presentation on the City Department of Transportation plan for the work.
