Briefly...

• Again this weekend, no F service from Manhattan to Roosevelt Island. (See ComingUp, page 3, for routing.) The Tramway is still out of service.

Tramway Plaza in Manhattan is about to get a $779,000 reconstruction by the City Parks Department – new planting beds, shrubs, and trees, new fencing, pavement, security lighting, and a water supply and draining system, according to an announcement made Thursday. All but $11,000 is coming from Solow Development, which has plans for adjacent land. The City is providing the $11,000 portion. There’s a diagram and additional information on page 12.

Macy’s Fireworks promise a thousand shell bursts per minute for this year’s display – over 120,000 in all. (See ComingUp, page 3.)

Residents were alarmed Tuesday when trees came down at the east edge of Capobiaco Field (just north of Eastwood). The U.S. Department of Agriculture removed two trees, estimated at 50 years old, because they were infested with the Asian longhorned beetle. It kills trees, boring holes a half-inch in diameter. Elsewhere on the Island, another infested tree was removed. USDA’s plant inspection service can be reached at 800-554-4501, ext. 72087.
