Roosevelt Island is an Island of the Arts today (Saturday, October 21).

Fall for Arts starts at 11:00 and runs to 5:00 in a variety of locations where Islanders will perform, paint, or read the written word.

Some highlights:

• A "Wall of Art" on Meditation Lawn, with a noon performance by Dagmar Spain in which she dances and draws. Those attending the festival will be invited to paint a section of the wall.

• A five-hour continuing showcase of Islanders, Roosevelt Island’s Got Talent, in the Eastwood Amphitheater, starting at 11:30.

• Swing-dance instruction at 3:00 at Sportspark.

• A recital by pianist Roy Eaton, drawing from his albums, The Meditative Chopin and Joyful Joplin, in the rotunda at Octagon Park Apartments.

• Gospel singer Juanita Fleming will sing gospel and blues following Eaton’s performance.

• Visual art will be featured at multiple locations: The auditorium at the south campus of Coler-Goldwater Hospital, Gallery RIVAA, and the Senior Center.

There’s a full listing of events, as supplied by the event sponsor, the Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation, program on page 11.

Cooperating in the mounting of Fall for Arts were RIVAA (Tad Sudol, Esther Cohen, Arline Jacoby), RIRA (Margie Smith with Vicki Feinmel), Coler-Goldwater Recreation (Ron Becker), the PTA (Lydia Tang), and The Child School / Legacy High School (Marla Kleinman).
