A Surprise on the Tram:
A Proposal of Marriage (Accepted)

Former Islander Andrew Glassberg made a Tram ride the setting for his proposal to Mia Olsen recently. "Mia said ‘yes’ to my proposal during a stoppage over the East River, which was part of a mechanical failure staged by the Tram conductor," Glassberg told The WIRE. "I had U2’s ballad, All I Want Is You, playing via an iPod on the Tram’s P.A. system. It was only Mia’s second Tram ride so, as she responded favorably, she was battling the anxiety caused by the staged service failure and swinging over the river."

Glassberg lived on the Island starting in 1976, and played for the Roosevelt Island Strykers traveling soccer team and the Geysers of the Little League. He’s now a principal in Lucky Boy Development, a real-estate development firm, and a principal in a new restaurant to open soon in Soho.

His future wife is a Masters candidate at Fordham, in Social Work, and is currently a social-work intern in the cardiothoracic unit at Cornell-Weill Medical Center. She’s from Orange, Connecticut.

They live together in Manhattan.
